ISIS militants struck multiple positions held by the Kurdish Peshmerga and Iraqi army around the disputed city of Kirkuk last night, as well as Diyala and Anbar, in a surprising show of coordination. A ground offensive against Peshmerga forces was successfully repelled.
After the Iraqi Army and Iranian-sponsored militias pushed the Peshmerga out of Kirkuk in 2017, a "security vacuum" was created in the area, which has become a safe haven for the remnants of ISIS. After several years, the terrorist group is regrouping and becoming more coordinated in both Iraq and Syria, putting Kurdish, Assyrian, Yezidi, and non-aligned Arab communities at increased risk.
FAI is honored to live and serve with the people of Iraqi Kurdistan and our dear friends in the Kurdish Peshmerga who have fought so hard and sacrificed so much over the last seven years. Please for the safety of the people of Kurdistan and greater Iraq today, and that the Lord might empower us by His Spirit to be faithful witnesses to the Good News here.
