At least 18 targets were struck by unclaimed air raids early Wednesday morning in the Eastern Syrian towns of Deir Ezzor and Al Bukamal, including Syrian military bases and warehouses. At least five Syrian soldiers and 11 Iranian-aligned militiamen were killed. The Israeli Air Force (IAF) is widely believed to be responsible for such strikes in Syria along the Iraqi border, a region known to be a hotbed of Iranian-aligned Shi’a militias that include Syrian and Iraqi Arabs, Afghans and even Pakistanis.
Although Israeli officials do not disclose the Jewish State’s involvement in most individual airstrikes outside of its airspace, the Israeli military did admit to a total of 50 airstrikes in Syria during the course of 2020. Some analysts have pointed out that Wednesday’s unusually large series of airstrikes comes just one week before US President Trump leaves office. Trump has been especially lenient towards Israel’s policy of Iranian containment throughout Lebanon, Syria and Iraq.
We ask the global Maranatha family to join us in prayer for the people of Israel, Syria and Iran. As the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) continues its program of hegemony around the Middle East, threatening Israel with destruction, the possibility of a catastrophic regional war is very real, with tens of millions of civilians at risk. We pray that the international community will continue to place political, economic and military pressure on the Iranian regime to contain it, that the plots of the IRGC would continue to be exposed and thwarted, and that the corruption and violence of the Iranian regime would continue to empower the underground churches of Iran and to drive Iranians, Afghans, Kurds, Arabs, and other people groups in their shadow towards a Better Way.
Maranatha.
