TURKISH OFFENSIVE CONTINUES IN IRAQI KURDISTAN

The Turkish military is intensifying a new offensive across the northern districts of Duhok Governate. Operations Claw-Lightning and Claw-Thunderbolt, which began April 23, are aimed at establishing new bases inside Iraqi Kurdistan and combating the presence of Kurdish PKK militia embedded throughout the rugged terrain near the Turkish border.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced the completion of an operation in the al-Hol prison camp, where ISIS sleeper cells have been active amongst the 62,000 detainees. The “Asayish” conducted the dangerous operation inside the sprawling camp, which netted 125 jihadist infiltrators.

Early Wednesday morning, the Turkish defense ministry announced the commencement of Operation Eagle Claw 2 inside Iraqi Kurdistan. Turkish fighter jets, Cobra helicopters and hundreds of elite Turkish commandos landed at the base of Mount Gara shortly before 3 AM local time in Duhok Province.
